ABSTRACT

Many “general” studies of VW in reality concentrate on one or two of her novels (usually some combination of MD, TL, and THE WAVES). In most cases such items have been placed, with cross-references if necessary, in the appropriate sections following this (i.e., sections J through S, devoted to studies of her nine novels); however, several articles which are truly “general” in their significance have been placed in the section below though they may draw their illustration from a narrow base in VW’s writings. As much as possible, the individual works considered in the following essays have been identified in the annotations. For a full accounting of the significant discussions of individual works, to be found among the general essays included in this section as well as in all other publications entered in this guide, see the concluding index: “Virginia Woolf’s Works.”
