ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the internationalization of Indigenous businesses. It utilises data from privately owned Indigenous businesses and data from non-Indigenous businesses in Canada. The book employs data of international Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses based in Alberta and British Columbia. It focuses on a representative sample of Indigenous businesses based in all provinces of Canada. The book aims to contribute to the international business literature beyond a mere application of theories and approaches and find out what is unique to the Indigenous context. It examines the antecedents and consequences of internationalization. The book also explores the influence of network ties, motivations, and identity on internationalization. It explains the antecedents of foreign entry mode choice by Indigenous businesses. The book analyses the consequences of internationalization and centers on the economic and non-economic outcomes of internationalization.
