ABSTRACT
In the pre-II World War period, the South countries were wholly dependent on imported supplies of capital goods, equipment, instruments and tools. There were, as described in Chapter V, a few repair and maintenance shops here and there, but nowhere a substantial capital goods industry. The South’s total dependence was to undergo a significant change in subsequent periods.
