Technological distance between nations and ‘catching-up’

An assessment of technological distance between nations is essential to an understanding of the chances that future newcomers, the third world countries, have of ‘catching-up’, or at least decreasing the economic distance between nations. 1 These subjects, for reasons difficult to fathom, have not been taken up for serious exploration by development economists. A wide diversity of views is popularly held, but these are not backed by serious research.
