ABSTRACT

This chapter makes a case for interprofessional care during sport and performance injury rehabilitation. The chapter outlines the core philosophical and theoretical foundations of this book and introduces the three phases of rehabilitation (Kamphoff et al., 2013) to the reader. The chapter also elaborates on the inclusion of different professionals as part of the interprofessional team, particularly as it relates to their competency in diagnosing and treating psychological aspects of sport and performance injury. Lastly, core interprofessional approaches to sport and performance injury are introduced to the reader, with the aim to provide sufficient foundation for the subsequent chapters.
