ABSTRACT

The cost of transporting the materials for the construction of these viaducts over the 56 miles of line, from Freetown to Rotofunk, has been taken into account in the estimate for these works. This item, which is considerable, is based upon the present expenditure upon the Sierra Leone Railway, on the assumption that the section from Rotofunk to Pehwahun, with its viaducts, would occupy a period of two years in construction. The final survey for the light line must be estimated to cost the same as the survey for a more permanent railway, for the best route for a light surface line will require to be as carefully picked out in the dense bush as a heavier line.
