ABSTRACT

By the end of the year 1903 it is expected that 150 kilometres (94 miles) will be ready to open for traffic; and next year work will be begun on the second section, for which 17 million francs have been put aside out of the recent French West African loan. The terminus of the first 150 kilometres will be Kindia, and of the second section at a point close to Timbo, the capital of the Fouta Djallon. Later on workshops will be established at Kindia for the second section. The whole of the first section to Paouignan, 118 miles in length, is expected to be finished in 1904, but this is not likely to be realised, and the Company have promised to finish the second section, which is a distance of 130 miles, from Paouignan to Tchaourou by 1908.
