ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some general particulars and interesting statistics of Nigerian Railway. The Nigerian Railway has been constructed, and is owned and worked by the Government. It incorporates the Lagos Government Railway from Lagos to Minna, and the Baro-Kano Railway; giving an all-rail route from Lagos to Kano. A well-appointed Boat Train is run between Lagos and Zaria in connection with inward and outward mails. This train provides both sleeping and dining accommodation of an up-to-date nature. Beyond Zaria a special connecting train runs to Kano and another to Bukuru. Besides the Boat Train, there is a service of Through Trains between Iddo and Kano twice a week, the time occupied on these runs being approximately 50 hours. Sleeping and dining accommodation are provided on the through trains.
