ABSTRACT

The general marrying season at the aforementioned towns such as Iwo, aforementioned Ilibu, Aragberi, Ejigbo, Ilagbeji, Ifon, all palm trees district, opens annually between October and closes in November or early in December. This is a custom followed at these places and adjacent towns, and occupies three moons, or a little over two months. The Owa replied that some Oginbos have spoken to him about cotton, and that the thing which at present discourages the Ijesha and Ekitis is the tolls. The women at these places say that, in former years, people from the Ilesha, Ife, Modakeke, and Ikiri districts were accustomed to bring their kernels to these markets for sale, but that this year, this traffic has almost ceased. The kernel crop in the Ikirun and Apomu districts is said to be good, but so many traders have discontinued their journeys that there is a great falling offin the trade. Some of the farmers take the kernels themselves to Ibadan, but the majority sell to the traders.
