ABSTRACT

This chapter examines one family's experience of Single-Session Therapy (SST) in a context where participants were being challenged by complex and multiple needs. It examines whether episodic, long-term Single-Session Therapy can be useful for a diverse range of long-term complex "conditions" including Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). SST, introduced to the Bouverie Centre in 1994 and implemented by the ABI team in 2005, has become a routine part of families' engagement with the ABI service. An ABI is a catastrophic event that changes lives forever, both for the person with the injury and their family members. The Anderson family attended sessions with the ABI team at the Bouverie Centre over a five-year period at an average of 6.5 times a year in various presenting combinations. Some practitioners were gradually becoming aware of the value of long-term intermittent work.
