ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author describes how from a Collaborative Therapy stance she and Julie Rivera Rio have incorporated the ideas of single-session therapy and walk-in services at Centro de Atencion a la Comunidad (CAC) a community-based counseling center in the Palo Solo neighborhood in Mexico City. In 2001 the conditions were set to open Centro de Atencion a la Comunidad as a clinical and training site for Grupo Campos Eliseos (GCE). CAC's mission is to offer high-quality and low-cost psychotherapy to the members of the community of Palo Solo; and to be learning and training site for students at GCE and other institutions. At CAC, the therapists, the clients and the team work in the same room. The trainees learn to listen in a more respectful way, to be aware of their body language, to be in a reflective position, to take the time to think about the ideas and connect them with the client's story.
