ABSTRACT

Getting into recovery from sex and porn addiction does not mean giving up sex, but rather identifying what positive sexuality means. Many people in recovery become fearful of their own sex drive and may struggle to identify when their desire comes from libido and when it comes from craving. This chapter, the ‘I’ in the CHOICE Recovery Model, helps those with addiction, and clinicians, consider what positive sexuality may mean, whatever their gender, orientation, belief system or relationship status. A tool is provided to develop a sexual sobriety plan as well as practical strategies for managing unwanted sexual fantasies and cravings. Common sexual dysfunctions are also explored and the role of abstinence and mindfulness for establishing sober sexuality.
