ABSTRACT

Controversy continues around the existence and aetiology of sex and pornography addiction. This chapter explores common definitions as well as misunderstandings and myths around this ever growing problem. Alternatives to the addiction label are also explored, including hypersexuality, OCSB (Out of Control Sexual Behaviours) and CSBD (Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorders) as proposed for ICD-11, the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organisation. An extensive overview of the latest research on neuroscience is provided, citing authors such as Griffiths, Kafka, Stulholfer, Voon and Wilson. In addition this chapter looks at the similarities and differences between sex addiction, porn addiction and love addiction and explores the many harmful consequences that compulsive sexual behaviours can cause.
