ABSTRACT

The positive psychology authors propose is in line with humanistic psychology. Also within psychology, the art of living has become a theme, especially in the field of positive psychology. The art of living has traditionally been an important topic within philosophy. There is, for example, the art of enjoying life, the art of developing one's own qualities, and the art of transcending oneself. The philosopher Michel Foucault spoke of the challenge of making one's own life into a work of art. The art of living is more about letting go of certain patterns rather than about imposing certain requirements on readers. It is more about creating space and about allowing oneself to be who they are, to be human, an experience which then becomes a source of joy, of self-development and connection. In A beginner's guide to mindfulness: Live in the moment authors describe how struggling against unpleasant experiences only makes things worse.
