ABSTRACT

This chapter includes case studies of several advanced topics, including construction close-out, building information modeling (BIM), and sustainability. Close-out of a construction project is the holistic and complicated process of completing all of the construction tasks and all documentation required to close out the contract and consider the project complete. Building information modeling, or models (BIM), has become commonplace on many larger and more complex construction projects. Contractors have also used BIM successfully for presentations, estimating, and scheduling. The objective of sustainability in the built environment is to plan and execute a construction project in such a manner as to minimize the adverse impact of the construction process on the environment. While much of the sustainable aspects of a completed project are a result of design decisions, other aspects are due to the manner in which the construction is performed.
