ABSTRACT

Those involved in beef production will primarily seek advice from national organizations providing comprehensive quality assurance programmes (including certification) and training packages. The aim of such organizations is to implement best practices based on scientific knowledge and common sense husbandry techniques in cattle and beef production. To this end, information for farmers, information related to transport, etc., must be presented in a clear and concise way. In the United States, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, linked to the ‘Beef Quality Assurance’ program (BQA), and the ‘Beef Cattle Institute’ at Kansas State University, provides such a service. Likewise, a branch of the Australian ‘Livestock Production Assurance – Quality Assurance’ program (LPA-QA) deals with cattle. The ‘LPA Quality on-farm manual’ is one example of their guides (LPA, 2014).
