ABSTRACT
Unfortunately, attempts to improve reproductive performance are hampered by suboptimal management, small profit margins, legislative mandates, public demands, disease problems and a variety of other factors. The range of factors that affect reproductive efficiency of sows is exhaustive, and some are beyond the scope of this chapter. In fact, entire books (Gordon, 1997; Bonet et al., 2013) and scientific conferences (RodriguezMartinez et al., 2009) provide information on reproduction in pig. This chapter describes some of the current factors affecting reproductive efficiency in modern pig production.
