ABSTRACT

Emerging from the performance structure of Ankiya Bhaona, Sattriya dance, which is pursued as a ritual in the Sattra, stands as an independent discipline and revolves round a frame of its own text and context. The re-understanding of the past heritage including dance in the wake of the nationalist agenda prompted Assamese national consciousness to focus on the re-inventorization of dance in the proscenium for a wider explication. The chapter dwells upon the exploration of the changing space and the contextual references of the text.
