ABSTRACT

One of the apparent answers to this question is that the abacus was a very efficient calculator at that time and there was, therefore, no need to improve it. The Chinese were satisfied with it! In some ways, the abacus proved to be a very useful tool. One point author would like to make is that "every problem has multiple solutions; it is the number of constraints that limit the number of solutions." The chapter examines the abacus, one may ask why the Chinese did not continue to develop a better calculator. They stuck with the abacus for a couple of thousand years.
