ABSTRACT

Rudolf Laban made it clear that mechanization and dehumanization of the body were anathema to him. Laban understood that human movers are not only stabilizing and mobilizing simultaneously in efficient and expressive movement, they can access one via the other, thereby increasing effective and efficient communications. Another theme that is usually seen as a dichotomy is stability/mobility, whereby the developers of the robot divide the action into one or the other: the robot part is either stabilizing or mobilizing. Neuroscience is another area of application of the Laban Movement Analysis work. Sarah J. Burton has also consulted on projects related to technology and human movement. In performed dance, particularly with younger dancers, highly functional technique often supercedes expressive and communicative aspects of dance. Emotions, including joy, sadness, anger, fear and so on can manifest expressively in Weight and Flow. Embodied leadership training is yet another fertile area for applications of Laban's work. .
