ABSTRACT
Chapter 4, “Delivery trauma and the maternal introject”, covers the impact of delivery trauma. One case concerns a very serious trauma, another one that – from a medical point of view – was slight but nevertheless excruciating to the mother. Therapeutic technique is thoroughly described through detailed vignettes. Once again, the impact of the mother’s previous relationship with her own mother on the present mother–baby relationship is exemplified and discussed via two case vignettes. They are discussed in terms of the theory of internal object relationships and the maternal introject.
