ABSTRACT

Chapter 6, “The external frame at the Child Health Centre”, addresses the special demands weighing on therapists working at a maternity clinic or a Child Health Centre. This relates to the blend of somatic and psychological issues, doing teamwork with the nurses, and utilizing a psychoanalytic mindset while yet applying an eclectic approach. Not the least, it brings out the importance of the therapist’s containment in a climate that is often tumultuous and taxing for everyone involved. It is emphasized that a solid and stable external frame is an essential counterweight to these hardships.
