ABSTRACT

Chapter 7, “Supervising nurses at the Child Health Centre”, continues the track laid out in the previous chapter. The author emphasizes the role of the midwife, nurse, and health visitor in detecting perinatal emotional problems. Especially, the therapist’s supervisions of the staff is portrayed here. They help the nurses become aware of emotional problems among parents and infants, and gain courage to bringing them up. A detailed example of such a supervision is provided, which illustrates some of the emotional difficulties involved for the health visitor.
