ABSTRACT

Different views on diversity exist around the globe due to different historical backgrounds and experiences among societies and geographical regions. Diversity is rather complex, consisting of a number of factors and characteristics. In order to obtain a more complex overview and understanding of diversity, there are several definitions and levels of diversity. The creators of the model believe that “a work team has always been diverse” with regard to individual differences and uniqueness. Leaders have no influence on the personality of workers; however, their role is more visible in other levels of diversity which are part of external dimensions. Demographic researchers have established that minority and majority status in diverse workgroups is not experienced equivalently across sex, race or age. Women as workers are more empathetic. The contribution of diversity to higher performance in organizations was confirmed by interviewed managers across all industries.
