ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the key features of innovation management in the framework and the implications for organization and strategy. It discusses organizational types appropriate for technology management using the contracts approach. The chapter presents an overview of the case studies, including remarks on methodology, and collects some of the findings. Managing organizational change is a well-known problem for firms as they grow or are challenged by new technology. The integration of technology into the firm's business operations is crucial to its successful management and hence its competitive advantage. The chapter provides an overview of the research programme. Having begun with the management framework it was found that the value of cases was as great in suggesting new hypotheses within this as in verifying the original ideas. Technology management includes questions of strategic management and its contribution to performance. Strategy steers activity towards areas of greatest competitive advantage via general objectives reflected in the architecture and project selection.
