ABSTRACT
There are all kinds of awards waiting for an individual: traditional awards, book awards, dissertation awards, and a wide variety of purposes and focus areas within each of these categories. A 1976 Special Olympics moment was commemorated as a poignant commercial. During a track race one athlete took a hard fall. Rather than capitalizing on the moment, two of the competitors stopped, turned around, helped the boy up, and then ran together to cross the finish line as one. Many mistake the scene as evidence the mentally challenged are all blessed with an angelic nature, which is a myth. A variety of grants are available to help kids. The US Department of Education offers three types of grants: student loans or grants that assist students with college costs, formula grants awarded based on formulas set by Congress, and discretionary grants awarded through a competitive process.
