ABSTRACT

I have deliberately not entitled this paper “How Not to Get Killed, etc.” because I could hardly guarantee the reader that he or she would not get killed. I can only provide experiences and a theoretical approach to the problem that have served me well. Also, I believe that I can claim some authority on this subject, in that I have worked with schizophrenics for 50 years and have occasionally been in some danger. Further, I was initially handicapped when beginning my career by the fact that, I believe, I was more generally fearful of being physically harmed than most people. Since I avoided having to hospitalize a patient, or call the police, I believe I can offer some useful suggestions.
