ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines the characteristics of intentional acts and how these characteristics apply to the practical component of intentional acts with the goal of displaying the theoretical foundations of the research. It describes how sexual life arises as an egoless hyletic life that is put in motion by passive intentionality, coitus intentionality, and is transformed into active intentionality, namely a meaning-giving activity. The book discusses the lower and higher layers of the spirit in order to explain how the volitional body—the moral organ of our actions—validates the feelings that lead to intimate love. It focuses on the study of the intersubjective community as it is constituted on a pre-predicative and predicative level. The book analyzes the meaning of normality and abnormality in relation to the notion of intercorporeality.
