ABSTRACT

The authors investigated a sugar mill plant to gauge the effects of various components failures on its performability. A sugar mill plant consists of various processes such as cane preparation, juice extraction, clarification, and crystallization. Keeping in mind the configuration of the sugar mill plant, a multistate mathematical model was developed with the help of Markov birth-death process for obtaining reliability, availability, MTTF, profit function, and sensitivity analysis for the same. For numerical computation, various failure/repair of the sugar mill are taken to be constant. The behavior of various performance measures are shown with the help of graphs. Critical components of the sugar mill plant are identified through sensitivity analysis.
