ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I seek to describe how the REACH Forgiveness intervention to promote forgiveness has been shown to be efficacious and how people throughout the world have sought to use REACH Forgiveness to knock down barriers that impair people from reaching their full potential and to promote growth that might exceed people’s own expectations. I cover recent research on group methods and individually administered methods, and I show how other methods seek to deal with special populations and use REACH Forgiveness, but within differently named programs such as Forgiveness and Reconciliation through Experiencing Empathy (FREE) and the Hope-Focused Approach (HFA) for couple enrichment and therapy.

By sharing these studies within my personal story of establishing efficacy, effectiveness, and dissemination, I hope to inspire investigators and practitioners to extend the reach of REACH Forgiveness, but also to equip interventionists with a philosophy that they can use to develop, experimentally investigate, and disseminate the use of their own psychological interventions.
