ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT: Lexical simplification is the process of identifying complex words in a sentence and replacing them with simpler substitutes to make the text more accessible to people. The possible candidate substitutions are generated in the second stage of a lexical simplification system, known as the substitution generation stage. In this survey, different methodologies used for generating such substitutions are discussed. The merits and drawbacks associated with each method are also described.
