ABSTRACT

The Avestan scholar Sokolov writes that the oldest known Avestan in the Gatha is the language of Zoroaster's mother, the dialect of the Eastern Bactria. From Pozand was understood that Zoroaster's mother was from Ragh. Zoroaster's mother is from Ragh, which is adjacent to the village of Duraj and not long ago was part of Darvaz district with whom the people of these villages have family ties. Western scholars such as F. Justi, C. Bartholomae, J. H. Moulto and F. Herzfeld, relying on Muslim historiography, considered Zoroaster to be from Kharon of Medes and understood him to have carried out his religious activities in Shiz of Adharbayjan. The adherents of the idea that Zoroaster was from Khwarazm regarded Zoroastrianism as a pre-historic religion, and believed that the religious ideas which Zoroaster brought along were not welcomed by the kings of the land.
