ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we examine the implementation of workforce agility within TechSci, a global technology company, and explore key initiatives which were part of their new ways of working. Drawing on interviews with 12 senior managers in locations around the world, we present the organization’s understanding, interpretation and enactment of agility. Agility encompassed the provision of technology enabling employees to work collaboratively, accessing people and projects, whatever their location. Tensions and unexpected consequences are revealed, and the essential nature of employee consultation in embedding an agile approach emerged. The implications for matching employee and employer needs for flexibility are discussed.
