ABSTRACT

When I was grade-school aged in Philadelphia, I remember hearing the bible story of the talents. As the story goes, two servants were each given a certain number of talents (coins). One used the talents well and multiplied the master’s investment many times over. The other buried the talents to keep them safe— of course, squandering the opportunity. The story impressed me. I could see the applicable logic that everyone is born with a certain set of natural abilities. Individuals can then either try to develop their abilities and use them well or can leave much of their potential unrealized. At any rate, I evolved the hope that I could develop my talents over the course of my life and use them to make differences in various ways.
