ABSTRACT
In contemporary America, mainline Protestantism no longer retains the social influence it once enjoyed. This chapter surveys other Christian traditions—notably, Roman Catholicism and evangelical Protestantism—as well as other religions and the growing influence of the religious “nones,” people who identify no denominational or religious affiliation in the United States. The public health and development aspects of each of those traditions is also examined.
