ABSTRACT

During the management development, researchers have employed differing methods of experimentation, observation, and theorization to overcome the myriad of problems that prevent the development of a universal theory of management. Confusion, controversy, and disagreement are traditionally characteristic of a new and growing field of study. There is a movement in the management field, which strongly favors the development and clarification of the basic concepts and terminology that are vital to the continued advancement of management thought. The first phase of the dissertation's main body involves an analysis dealing with the evolution of management thought, especially management principles. The second phase of the dissertation's main body deals with "clarification". The field of management has compiled both an impressive and voluminous collection of literature. This chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
