ABSTRACT

Since the advancement of neuroscience, a field that has highly contributed to research of brain activity, recent studies have been able to evaluate some of the effects of art therapy on different brain regions, showing how the brain and body respond to art related experiences. Through art therapy interventions and the continued use of positive and useful neural pathways of thinking, it is possible to change emotional and destructive behavioural patterns. The following is the most complicated approach in art therapy I have ever come across, however it allows us to look at how our thinking occurs when we respond to triggers around us, and it attempts to change neural pathways through uncovering an unconscious inner strength. It is a technique for working with abstract pictures based on the theory of neural plasticity and art therapy that was developed by the innovative German art therapist Otto Hanus. The reader is encouraged to participate through drawings and self-reflection.
