ABSTRACT

Thousands of tests and questionnaires are available. Choosing the right test has recently been compared to crossing a minefield to purchase a used car. Many people have used the earlier versions of the self-perception questionnaire. Management colleges and practitioners frequently include the questionnaire in a course or a consultancy. The self-perception inventory takes about 20 minutes to complete. Most people find it an intriguing and slightly challenging experience. The raw scores are entered on computer files through the INTERPLACE program and are converted through norms to a graphic display of a percentage chart. This shows an individual’s natural team roles, the roles that are best avoided and any others which can make up the middle ground. Most people claim to be good at recruiting and selecting. However, all too often bad decisions are made and organizations are stuck with useless employees for years to come.
