ABSTRACT

This chapter is a description of work that has been done in this area. It describes the need for change in the way some organizations are operating as well as the theory behind a management development programme that has been formulated by QUARTO, a group of management consultants and trainers. For any project, assignment or business to be successful there needs to be a vision or an idea that defines the mission and the specific business objectives. There needs to be a fit between the vision, skills and abilities of the manager, the resources available to him or her, and the customer and market needs. Once objectives are clear and harmony exists between the vision, market and resources, the next stage is to implement the idea. Managing the process of taking a vision or idea through to action requires specific knowledge, skills and attitudes. A manager needs to be purposeful, positive and assertive. He or she needs confidence and self-esteem.
