ABSTRACT

Description helps you choose the most fitted theory (search models) to the discourse. Theory helps you (1) name precisely the rhetorical properties of a message, (2) identify patterns in the use of those properties, and (3) ask yourself questions about those patterns that facilitate drawing conclusions about the nature of or value of messages based on as objective a foundation as possible. You learn how to apply theory and how to make choices about what counts as important rhetorical choices made by rhetors and how to record your findings. The chapter provides examples and explanations of critical analysis in progress.
