ABSTRACT

This chapter explores one practical team coaching framework that aims to meet the high expectations. It provides a step-by-step, evidence-based method that guides team coaches from assessing and understanding a team’s current state to providing a clear path of activities and actions to build a team’s effectiveness in the future. The chapter outlines a robust, modularized coaching approach that a team coach can effectively and confidently implement knowing there is a strong base of team effectiveness and team coaching research to support each of the phases. Coaches need to assist teams to achieve the three success measures of a high performance team: quality results; high engagement and commitment; and growth and development. The team coach can help the team create a common vocabulary and understanding about what high performance teams look like and what they do to be successful. The coach also serves as an accountability partner as the leader upgrades their behaviour and champions the team’s agreements and actions.
