ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines an approach to incorporate the analysis of context into team coaching engagements. It proposes that team coaches leverage the several nested levels of context and associated analytical models to drive team coaching engagements. The emergence of systemic team coaching is one response from organizations and teams to cope with agility and resilience to the all-pervasive volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous (VUCA)-ness. In the team coaching context, coaches will be connecting the conversation and focus to three levels of impact: self/individual, team and organization. Approaches to team coaching in our ever-changing VUCA world therefore require the team coach to be aware of the dynamic interaction of the task, process, stakeholder, organization, and the environment that these interactions occur within. Team coaches need a unified framework to approach analyzing context with the team and the team coaching effort at the center of focus.
