ABSTRACT

This chapter features an interview with writer Tanya Saracho. Saracho was born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. She has worked on How to Get Away with Murder, HBO’s Looking and Girls, and Lifetime’s Devious Maids. She is the creator and showrunner of Vida on Starz. Named “Best New Playwright” by Chicago magazine, Saracho has had plays produced in New York at Primary Stages, Second Stage Uptown, and Clubbed Thumb; in Chicago and surrounds at the Goodman, Steppenwolf, Teatro Vista, Teatro Luna, Next Theatre (Evanston), and 16th Street Theater (Berwyn); and at the Denver Center Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Fountain Theatre (L.A.). She is a cofounder of Teatro Luna (the first all-Latina theater company in the nation, though now defunct) as well as a cofounder of ALTA (Alliance of Latinx Theater Artists) of Chicago.
