ABSTRACT

This chapter features an interview with Jocelyn Bioh, a first-generation Ghanaian American writer-performer from New York City. Her plays include African Americans (produced at Howard University, 2015; Southern Rep Ruby Prize Finalist, 2011; O’Neill Theater Center NPC Semifinalist, 2012), Nollywood Dreams (Cherry Lane Mentor Project 2017; Kilroys List 2015), and School Girls; or, The African Mean Girls Play (produced by MCC at the Lortel in November 2017). Her musical The Ladykiller’s Love Story, for which she conceived the story and wrote the libretto, with music and lyrics by CeeLo Green, is currently in development with the Apollo Theater. As a TV staff writer, Jocelyn has worked on Russian Doll (Netflix 2019) and on Season 2 of Spike Lee’s acclaimed series She’s Gotta Have It.
