ABSTRACT

This chapter features an interview with Jason Grote, whose plays include 1001 (Time Out New York Top 10 of 2007; Denver Post Ovation Award); Civilization (All You Can Eat); Maria/Stuart; and Desire Path. He has written performance text for David Levine’s Habit (a 2013 Obie winner); En Garde Arts’ Basetrack Live (2014 New York Times Critic’s Pick); and Radiohole’s Tarzana. His work has been produced and developed at such venues as Soho Rep, PS122, The Performing Garage, BAM, Clubbed Thumb, Sundance, O’Neill Theater Center NPC, the Denver Center, Woolly Mammoth, The Civilians, Baryshnikov Arts Center, The Foundry, MASS MoCA, Theater @ Boston Court (Pasadena), CAP @ UCLA, Salvage Vanguard, Chicago’s Theater on the Lake, and the Bielefeld (Germany), Luminato (Toronto), and Mass Live Arts festivals. TV credits include Mad Men, Hannibal, Smash, Knightfall, and Z: The Beginning of Everything. He is an alumnus of New Dramatists.
