ABSTRACT

G. Stanley Hall continues his journey in the rediscovery and furthering of the techniques used in the field of mask making and theatre arts performance in general. Stanley Allan Sherman was no different. The arts run deep within the Sherman family, as Stanley has a sister who is a union costumer and a grandfather who was a tailor. As Stanley left to discover his path in the world his own father had a different piece of advice to give his son Stanley. The leather-stretching technique has become a signature item in Stanley’s creative arsenal. One that he had to develop himself. The magic of this interaction and the happenstance of destiny made the encounter special to Stanley, and would go on to study at the Ecole Jacques Lecoq from 1970 to 1972, where, as fate would have it, he really discovered performance and masks. Understanding what a performer needs to achieve while wearing the mask is vital to Stanley’s success.
