ABSTRACT

The most important thing about contracts for any artists (aside from actually reading them) is that they do not sign them and then assume that they can blow them off. A NDA is a very different kind of contract that actors often are asked to sign without even having a part in something. It means a non-disclosure agreement. Non-disclosure agreements are contracts as well and are very important. All across the US there are showcase codes and developmental contracts for stage actors where union actors can work while still under the union banner. There are low budget and even ultra low budget contracts for actors to work under in film and TV while still being in the union jurisdiction. Actors should also be aware of a great group called Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. It was originally founded in New York City and now has over fifty-three offices in the United States and Canada.
