ABSTRACT

Understudying roles is only for stage roles. Even ‘professionals’ may be very unprofessional, as in the 2015–2016 Broadway season where both Bruce Willis and Al Pacino appeared in shows where they were leads and were fed their lines via earpieces. Many theaters start rehearsals with actors not memorized at all and they get a long rehearsal period to learn them. Using new stage and computer techniques that have begun to merge the internet with traditional stage theater, the University of Central Florida, Bradley University in Illinois and the University of Waterloo in Canada performed a play in 2017 that put actors from Florida and Canada on the stage in Illinois without any of them ever leaving their respective campuses. Technology is growing so fast for the stage that what the author type today may be completely outdated by print time.
