ABSTRACT

Within the context of accredited, continuing professional development for faculty, this chapter explores the various lenses through which Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is presented and implemented at University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland. UCC’s work on UDL at its Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) builds on research in the field of Multiple Intelligences, on the university’s involvement in Harvard University’s Project Zero Classroom and on the Teaching for Understanding (TfU) model therein. The chapter concludes by analysing the experience of one faculty member who participated in the professional development offered to faculty and the impact that this has had on students.
