ABSTRACT
Video has multiple forms and uses in a college course. To fully engage students and increase accessibility, video must be purposefully integrated into courses using the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Through the UDL lens, video, as a medium provides a complementary tool set that faculty in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) can use to provide options for engagement, representation, and action and expression. Research demonstrates that video is used in a majority of education settings, however, the effectiveness of that use is diminished by unfocused video integration. This chapter will provide information on how the planful use of video can improve both accessibility and engagement in courses in higher education.
